November 1994, the merchant ship "Trade Daring" was loading iron ore at Ponta
da Madeira's Pier I.
The Accident
The ship suffered an accident in the harbor and her hull was broke on two
pieces (picture to the left).
Solution
For more than 30 days suction pumps, dredges, cutting devices and divers were
used attempting rescuing the cargo and liberating the pier.
Outcome
The Brazilian Maritime Authority implemented Regulation Number 04 for Bulk
Carriers, improving significantly safety conditions in national waters.
RBNA Collaboration
RBNA engineers assisted the ship-owner on the calculations and on the
development of the salvage procedures.
