Bateau Mouche IV

Case Description
New Year's Eve of 1989, passenger boat “Bateau Mouche IV” sank on the exit of Guanabara Bay on her way to Copacabana Beach with 150 people on board.

The Accident
Accordingly to the investigation, the vessel sank due to a group of problems
e.g. inexistent pumps for the machinery room. The accident caused the death of 55 passengers.

Outcome
Regulation on passenger vessels was improved. Regulations were consolidated.

RBNA Collaboration
RBNA Group helped on the investigation. Even though the vessel was not a RBNA classed vessel, the matter was given high importance by the organization and the study was monitored directly by the CEO.
